This is where the example web page (and hopefully whatever page the reader is working on) begins to look really good, as the page starts to look less like a Microsoft Word document and more like a well-built website.
The next four lessons involve finer details, including how to position content, putting a good background on your site, crafting lists, and altering how typefaces look on the page.
The fact that HTML5 and CSS3 are integrated within the lessons make them more valuable to people who have experience, but need a refresher (like me) because it makes them meet these newer elements that have been added in newer versions of HTML and CSS code in context with code they already know. These are also the lessons that introduce the reader to elements of HTML5 and CSS3. For those who don’t know, scemantics is adding organization to the code of a web page by using tags that have the right meaning according to Lesson 2 of “Learn to Code HTML and CSS”.įor example, both the and tags in HTML make the text bold, the tags indicate that the text within them is strongly important, whereas the tags are meant to make text bold while not making it stick out too much. The first four lessons start off by teaching the viewer the basic ropes of both HTML and CSS as well as the scemantics of each language. I personally have been taking notes on these recently because while I am experience with both of these languages, so much has changed with the advent of HTML5 and CSS3 that I needed to take a refresher course to catch up. This site contains 12 lessons dedicated to beginnner-level HTML and CSS, all in order of increasing difficulty. Over my years of learning HTML and CSS, no website has been as useful, organized, or well designed as Shay Howe’s “Learn to Code HTML and CSS”. Many colleges and universities do not even have a web development or design program because the rate of changes in these fields far outpaces the speed that traditional institutions can adapt to.īecause of this, many designers and developers who are serious about creating content for the internet rely on resources that are on the net itself. In the quickly changing landscape of front-end web development with HTML and CSS, it can be difficult to stay up to date as the standards for these languages constantly evolving.
